Dryden Aqua AFM Glass Filter Media Grade 1 and 2

AFM Swimming Pool Filter media is manufactured from virgin grade glass and glass manufactured by Dryden Aqua. AFM (active glass filter media ) is a highly processed product certified under Reg 31 of the UK drinking water inspectorate. With offer 80,000 installation around Europe it is probably the safest and most efficient swimming pool filtration media on the market today.

Standard Particle Size

  • Grade 1  0.5mm to 1.0mm
  • Grade 2  1.0mm to 2.0mm

Chemical Composition

  • Sio2  74% (Silicon Dioxide, Silica)
  • Na2o 11% (Sodium Oxide, Soda)
  • Ca0   10% (Calcium Oxide, Magnesia)
  • Mg0    3% (Magnesium Oxide, Magnesia)
  • Al2o3  1% (Aluminium Oxide, Alumina, Aloxite)
  • Improved Clarity

A genuine step forward in pool water filtration. AFM (Active Glass Filter Media) filters out the smallest particles from pool water. The negative surface charge of AFM enables it to filter down to 5 microns, ensuring pool water remains crystal-clear.

  • Improved Water Quality

Pools using AFM as filter media will benefit from a reduction in chloramines. No more red eyes and undesirable chlorine smells.

  • Healthy Pool Water

Bacterial contamination is commonplace when conventional sand is used as the filter media. AFM actively resists filter contamination resulting in cleaner, healthier water.

  • Minimal Payback Period

Unlike silica sand, AFM does not need to be changed every five years. AFM will almost certainly outlast your filter tank. Pools using AFM will use less chlorine and need to be backwashed less frequently; dumping heated treated water can be expensive. You can expect a payback period of less than 12 months when converting from silica sand to AFM.

  • Superior Performance

AFM is largely self sterilizing and is cleaned with approx 50% less back-flush water. The life of AFM may outlast the life of the filter. AFM will remove smaller particals from water. Under controlled conditions using 16/30 sand, at a flow rate of 10m3/hr/m2 the sand removed approx 90% of all particals down to 10 microns. AFM Grade 1 under the same conditions removed partical size down to 5 microns.

Please Kindly Note

AFM is very easy to use. It is  a direct replacement for sand in all pressure or gravity flow sand filters. When replacing sand with AFM, use 10% to 20% Grade 2 AFM at the bottom, then 80% to 90% Grade 1 on top.

If you are unsure how many AFM 25kg bags you need, see our Filter Tank listings for a guide on how many 25kg Silica Sand Bags these various makes and sizes of filter tanks require, then times this amount by 90% and divide 70/30 between Grade 1 and Grade 2. 10% less media required (90kg of AFM replaces 100kg of sand)
